The Guava (Psidium guajava), universally known in South Asia as Amrood, is a magnificent tropical and subtropical fruit tree belonging to the Myrtaceae (Myrtle) family. Native to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America, it was distributed globally centuries ago and has become a beloved staple in home gardens, sunny terraces, and residential orchards.

  • The Golden Requirement: Full, direct, unfiltered sunlight is absolutely mandatory. To fuel its rapid growth and the high metabolic demands of fruit production, the Amrood tree requires a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of direct sun daily.
  • Placement: Position the plant in your absolute sunniest location—an unshaded garden bed, an open rooftop terrace, or a spacious south-facing balcony. If kept in partial shade, the tree will produce lush green leaves but will completely fail to set flowers.
  • The Medium: It is highly adaptable to a variety of soil conditions, but performs at an elite level in a rich, deep, sandy-loam mix with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (5.5 to 7.0). For premium container setups, mix high-quality garden soil with generous amounts of organic compost, cocopeat, and coarse sand or perlite.
