The Jade Plant (Crassula ovata), universally revered as the Lucky Plant, Money Tree, or Friendship Tree, is a timeless masterwork of the succulent world. Belonging to the Crassulaceae family and native to the rocky hillsides of South Africa, this iconic evergreen perennial is a powerhouse in interior design and landscape styling. Deeply intertwined with global corporate culture and Feng Shui traditions, it is celebrated as a premier symbol of good fortune, wealth, and enduring prosperity.

  • The Requirement: Bright, indirect light to full, direct sunlight is absolutely essential. It loves soaking up sun rays, which fuel its compact, tight leaf growth and bring out those premium crimson leaf edges. A minimum of 4 to 6 hours of bright light daily is ideal.
  • Placement: Position it on your absolute sunniest windowsills (south- or west-facing are perfect), or style it on bright patios and open balconies.
  • Low Light Warning: Keeping it in a dim room corner for too long is highly detrimental. The plant will rapidly become "leggy" (stems stretching out widely with large gaps between leaves), the rich green color will dull, and the weak branches will eventually bend and snap under their own weight.
  • The Core Philosophy: Because it is a highly evolved desert succulent, overwatering is the single fastest way to destroy this plant.
  • The Routine: Apply the absolute "soak and dry" method. Water the soil deeply and thoroughly until water flows freely out of the bottom drainage holes, then allow the entire potting medium to dry out completely before watering again. In spring and summer, this typically means watering once every 2 weeks; in peak winter, reduce this to once every 4 to 6 weeks.
